The 12th season of American Idol will feature a new judge, Hip Hop/Pop Hyper-Star “Nicki Minaj“. The announcement was made today(Sept. 16).
Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will be stepping down as judges after two seasons on then show. Talk of Nicki being a judge on Idol has been circulating for awhile. There was also talk of Pharrel Williams, Enrique Iglesias and Nick Jonas being considered for the panel. But, after today’s announcement, it’s official as far as who’s going to judge American Idol.
On the panel will be Nicki Minaj, country singer Keith Urban, Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey. Ryan Seacrest will also be back as host. FOX stated that Randy would be back amidst rumors of Jackson leaving the show. We’ve known about Mariah being on the judges panel since June. Keith Urban was asked earlier this month about the rumors of him judging the show and he said that he would love to do it. He said that he was into it for the mentoring aspect. Now, Urban will definitely be a judge on Idol.
Filming began Sept 16 as the first auditions took place in New York City. Further auditions will also take place in Charlotte, Oklahoma City, Los Angeles, Baton Rouge and San Antonio. American Idol airs in January on FOX.
