Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Tells Us The Danger Of A Single Story - {Video}

In Nigeria, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel Half of a Yellow Sun has helped inspire new, cross-generational communication about the Biafran war. In this and in her other works, she seeks to instill dignity into the finest details of each character, whether poor, middle class or rich, exposing along the way the deep scars of colonialism in the African landscape.

Adichie's newest book, The Thing Around Your Neck, is a brilliant collection of stories about Nigerians struggling to cope with a corrupted context in their home country, and about the Nigerian immigrant experience.
Adichie builds on the literary tradition of Igbo literary giant Chinua Achebe—and when she found out that Achebe liked Half of a Yellow Sun, she says she cried for a whole day. What he said about her rings true: “We do not usually associate wisdom with beginners, but here is a new writer endowed with the gift of ancient storytellers.”

"When she turned 10 and read Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, about the clash between Igbo tradition and the British colonial way of life, everything changed: ‘I realized that people who looked like me could live in books.’ She has been writing about Africa ever
since. - Washington Pos

Alpoko Don South Carolina's King Of The Acapella Rap- "Sittin Sideways" - {Video} -FREESTYLE

Social media has made Alpoko Don a household name. His video’s have been viewed close to nine million times. Sitting on his front porch with nothing other than a pen and his fist, Don creates rhythm patterns using the banister railings of his porch. He’s a one man band spitting raw emotion, religious inspired and thought provoking lyrics that some may say is reminiscent of DMX or the late Tupac Shakur.  When I first heard this guy I couldn't believe what I was seeing he has taken recess in the hallways beating on the locker while rapping to another level.  Checkout the video below it's my favorite and then go support him Here

Giano Releases New Mixtape "Not Until They Say" - {Audio}

Displaying Giano - N.U.T.S. 4.jpg

Virginia-based producer/Emcee Giano presents a remix/mash up/mixtape entitled “Not Until They Say” – a tongue-in-cheek title implying that the formula for success in entertainment is based largely on a proverbial group, “they”.  “They” are the music fans, established artists, record labels, bloggers, etc.  There are many expert opinions on what the exact formula for success in the music industry is, and “Not Until They Say” does not attempt to use a formula nor define one; rather, the album is a social commentary as well as personal testimony outlining Giano’s thoughts on the subject, even poking fun at the contradictions in himself as an artist seeking success, and loosely providing greater insight into the theme on each progressing track.  It’s not until “they” say that you’re special [that] you get in, but even “they” wait until “they” say…you kidding? Giano raps on the title track, suggesting a vicious cycle in which the powers-that-be await the next buzz-worthy artist to emerge whose acclaim is likely created by the very people waiting for it.
Giano has released several previous projects, including 2012’s “S.O.R.I.”, which featured production by S1, Sinuous, IllMind, and Apollo Brown, and received positive reviews from online publications.
I consider myself an emcee seeking to be transparent about the way I’m experiencing the world, using as little hyperbole as possible, and yet giving the listener good Hip Hop music.Giano

"I will slap the sh*t out of you...just watch your f*ckin' mouth. That's all, man." said Star.
"That's all," agreed Lord Jamar.

The interview continues, with both Lord Jamar and Star going on a passionate rant against Yelawolf and what they perceive as the racist, aggressive, and hypocritical response of his fans.

They conclude the interview by weighing in on the acclaimed film "12 Years a Slave," praising it for keeping the painful history of slavery on the nation's conscience.

The Eu4ick Music Group, In Co-Operation With New Media Records Presents “Might Begin (Promo)” - Frak

Closure

What might this begin? That’s probably a question you've had to ask yourself more than once in your life. Frak tumultuous experiences involved with his love affairs have made it difficult for him to make a connection. #MightBegin touches upon what outcomes may possibly befall him and his beau, acknowledging his instability and her insecurities, along with the sexual temptation and drama that comes along with all interpersonal, intimate relationships. Fraks performance is heartfelt, amplified by incredible production, the masterful engineering of Araz Productions, and the incredibly eye catching artwork of EJ Negre
Closure is extremely important. Be it in regards to end of a relationship, or the end of a life; without closure too many questions are left unanswered. Fraks promotional project titled #Closure relates to the importance of finality and understanding that all is as it is for a reason. Four individually released singles are the flesh and bones of this two month campaign. The four track promotional project will feature a video release for the final song.
It's amazing how when Drake came out more Emcees felt comfortable to express their feelings...lol it's growing on me I'm not necessarily my favorite genre of HipHop but I'm learning.

Twista Talks About All The Chicago Violence - {Video}

Twista chopped it up with VladTV recently about the violence stricken streets that have been plaguing Chicago for a long time now. While New York City has recorded record lows regarding homicides that took place in 2013, Chicago, also dubbed "Chi-Raq" doesn't seem to be letting up. Twista shared his thoughts on why he thinks there is so much violence in Chicago and one reason he provided was the presence of social media. Twista thinks that since everything is recorded so closely now, it influences the Chicago youth to commit violent crimes because they know it'll be posted about online in some way. He went on to address the topic of Chief Keef and the effect his music has had on the youth of the windy city.

Leaon Marin - "B*tch Bad" - {Audio}

Bitch Bad (Explicit)

HipHop artist, Leon Marin decided to release a free verse over Lupe Fiasco's song, "B*tch Bad". The message behind the free verse describes Leon's personal experiences with women to create the picture that some females portray to be women but are actually b*tches. The derogatory term can be applied to males creating a perception that aren't as well.  A b*tch is not a gender, it's a description of someone takes their insecurities out on other people in order to make themselves feel better about well...themselves.  That's my take.

"This free verse in no way, shape, or form is to offend anyone. It's premise is to tell a story." - Leon Marin
