King avriel - "Judegement Day/Valley Dolls" - {Audio}

The California hailing singer-songwriter and cerebrally stimulating individual has definitely been one of the brightest newcomers on the R&B scene for a hot minute and she continues to impress with her most recent slice of intelligent audio goodness “Judgement Day/Valley Dolls”, the second release from her eagerly anticipated debut EP Thesis.
The idea for the song came to me during a prisoner’s dilemma simulation in one of my classes. It reminded me of how, when I was younger, I tended to look out for others at my own expense in those kinds of situations. On surface level, it’s about me taking the blame for an imaginary crime I committed with a partner. However, it is ultimately a metaphor for a more personal lived experience, how I covered up my uncertainty with a false sense of righteousness when making a tough decision, and the faith I drew on to help me find solace.– King avriel.

Lil Fame & Termanology (Fizzyology) “Hustler’s Ringtone” (Ft. Bun B) - {Video}
 Lil Fame & Termanology have joined forces to form this dynamic duo by the name of Fizzyology and let me say this HipHop sure did needed it.  There is no such thing as too many soldiers in this epic battle between Good & Evil (Underground HipHop Vs. Commercial HipHop).

Kojey Radical - “The Garden Party” - {Video}

Enigmatic London hailing spoken word and visual artist Kojey Radical dives back into his impressive debut EP effort, Dear Daisy : Opium.
The powerful track “The Garden Party“, produced by fellow London residing artist Jay Prince, is paired with visuals crafted by award winning film collective The Rest (and Kojey himself) and is an evocative film piece detailing a love story (of sorts). The various off-kilter visual styles, nature filled backdrops, utilisation of text and diverse pace makes for a beautiful visual.  Now this is HipHop in it's purist form.

DJ MTM - Matsutake Volume 2 - {Audio}
  Topdawgz main man on the wheels of steel DJ MTM releases the follow-up to his Matsutake Vol.1 Mixtape and it's off the meter.  I started playing this joint and it rocked for like 30 minutes before I realize I didn't skip any tracks.  He didn't pull any punches on the vocals either with artist like Professor P, Rob Kelly, Lord Tariq, Craig G just to name a few, are definitely showing their lyrical superiority on the Mic.  Push play and let it do its thing you will not be disappointed.  This is still one of my favorite mixtapes.

The Revolutionizing Of Neo-Jazz Lead By Gi-Twice - {Live Video}

Gi-Twice is one of the most courageous people I know, to literally walk away from her job as a Microbiologist to pursue her music career was a bold decision.  This Louisiana native was born for greatness, she has received many accolades throughout her career as a solo artist and as part of the husband/wife duo formally known as Mahogany Dust.  Gi-Twice is creating her own path in the Neo-Jazz genre by creatively mixing Lounge, Reggae, House, Soul, and Rock music into her own Jazz compilation.  Artist like Gi-Twice only come around when the planets and the stars are aligned.  So please make sure you go out and support your local artist, where real music still exists.

"My presentation of Neo-Jazz is a fusion of 30's-40's big band era with a topping of neo-soul. It's both new and old." - Gi-Twice

Dj Low Cut Presents "Dusty Robbery" - {Audio}

As a retrospective of what Dj Low Cut has released in the past few years, Dusty Robbery brings the light on the dusty vinyls he dig to produce every track. What you’re about to hear is a mix of original music Dj Low Cut used and songs he did with those.  This is more proof that HipHop is a universal culture and rap is the one art form that breaks all color barriers.  This Cd is straight dope and worth the FREE download hell I would have paid for this gem.

2morrows Victory - “Rancid Dreamstate” - {Video}

 Coming out of the depths of South London Underground HipHop the eclectic duo 2morrows Victory consider this very situation – “meeting the dream situation and turning it down for the actual dream” – over cosmic, shifting production on “Rancid Dreamstate.” This is an example of how HipHop is so universal.  It's like the other countries are in their 90's era of HipHop where lyrical content was more important than "Money, Hoes, and Rims".  This is what UnsungHipHop.Com is all about showing love and paying homage to the "Real" Emcees.
Comprised of Rafael Powell and Chicago native Greg B [and hotly tipped by Gilles Peterson last year] the group’s influences span a Hip Hop, Soul landscape ranging from Madlib to Little Dragon, culminating in a “dream-like ambience” for their new project, The Prime. “Dreams are ‘the prime’ moments of peoples lives. This music is about blending dreams and real life,” explains Greg B of their six-track EP, self-released and available to buy now.

Janelle Monae Talks To SoulCulture's Mental Health Campaign "#OkNotToBeOK" - {Video}

In the latest segment of SoulCulture’s mental health campaign, #OKNotToBeOK, internationally renowned singer, songwriter, rebel android and creative Janelle Monae discusses the importance of asking for help, finding balance in life and creating as her release.

I think it’s important to ask for help and I think that you can’t allow your pride or anything to get in the way of you becoming the best and being the best you can be as a person first.

“And I think that being a creative person sometimes you can get lost in your own world and your imagination can go in so many different places, and so what I thought was best was to be able get out everything. And this helped my writing process. I speak to people in my family and I talk a lot and I’m very open to those who I know love and care about me.

“I also use music as therapy and I use music as a way to release. I don’t know what I would do without having music in my life, because I believe music is the best form of medicine that you can take.

There is nothing wrong with going and talking to somebody. If you don’t have the money go talk to a friend or a stranger, you never know. Tell somebody, get it out and you’ll feel a lot better once you start to speak about the many things that are just going on in your life.”

Watch Janelle MonaƩ discuss the importance of seeking help, finding balance and music and creating as a release below.

A Tribute To HipHop Genius Sean Price (#Rest In Price) - {Video}

Four days ago HipHop lost one of the the greatest to ever bless the Mic.  It feels horrible for me to say that Sean Price passed away at age 43. The details of his death are unknown but Price is said to have died in his sleep. Price leaves behind his wife and three children. Our sincerest condolences goes out to Sean Price's family and Duck Down.

In honor of his passing, Dead End HipHop dropped unreleased footage from Duck Down's 15th Anniversary Tour from October 14th, 2010.

Sean Price was a member of Heltah Skeltah. Ruck and Rock were working on a new Heltah Skeltah album until his unfortunate death. Price's new album 'Songs In the Key of Price' is due August 21st, on Duck Down Records. Sean Price was an absolute monster on the mic and he will be greatly missed.

Duck Down created a fundraiser to go towards Sean Price's family. Click here to donate CrowdRise

Raekwon - "Marble Cake" - {Audio}

Drake wasn’t wrong when he said “Wu-Tang Forever,” and while we still wait for a (supposed) remix to that Nothing Was The Same beat, Raekwon fast-forwards straight to the entrancing Boi-1da beat for “Marble Cake.”
Listen below as The Chef turns up in typical Wu fashion; superlative, untouchable raps that still burrow comfortably in with any rap heavyweight out, not to mention the others who have already stepped up to the “Pound Cake” plate.
‘Tecs, tecs, tecs’ chants ring out as Rae brings the track back to the streets and if this gully rendition of one of Drake’s standout tracks is anything to go by, Raekwon’s upcoming F.I.L.A. (Fly International Luxurious Art) is something we should all be excited for.
Oh and because we’re so good to you, check the merged version by Dreddy of Raw Blood.

MC Melodee - "Think Twice" - {Video}

It’s apparent upon hearing MC Melodee for the first time that the city of Amsterdam has been hiding an undiscovered HipHop talent within its walls. Lyrically charming [as well as physically striking], MC Melodee is what happens when beauty meets the beat.
A child of the old school teachings of HipHop, her influences stretch as far back as KRS OneQueen LatifahBig Daddy Kane and more. Even paying homage to the early ’90s Native Tongue movement through the use of electric green, yellow and red paints in her project artworks – the cover art for her recently released My Tape Deck via iTunes is reminiscent to that of Brand Nubian’s album One For All; there’s an obvious respect for the culture and art form as a whole.  Out now, the Cookin’ Soul produced project My Tape Deck is a modern day extension of the golden era. Featuring boom bap beats and B-girl confessions, MC Melodee just wants the world to know she’s all about having fun without compromising who she is.

One half of the Dynamic Underground Duo Dead Prez's S.T.I.C. Sa-Roc - "Maximum Frequency" - {Video}

Hands down Sa-Roc is one of my favorite Emcees, she's in my top ten.  Year after year this Goddess drops truth on the world with her lyrics of fury.  Yet most of y'all never heard of her and probably never will. "The Truth" is not a big money maker in HipHop.  So sit back relax get out your notebook and pen the teacher is in session.

David Banner - "My Uzi" (Ft. Big Krit) - {Video}

Ever since David Banner has reinvented himself into one of the most profound conscious Emcees he has been fire shots at "White Supremacy".  I must admit the old David wasn't gettin' any play on UnsungHipHop but today is a new day.  Make sure you forward this link on all of your social media sites, everyone needs to hear this right here.

King Los - "War" (Ft. Marsha Ambrosius) - {Video}

Probably one of the most underrated Emcees in the rap game especially come out of my home town of Baltimore.  You know Baltimore, known for "Club Rap", which real misrepresentation of the true essence of Baltimore HipHop.  Being from B-more I can tell you personally King Los represents a entire culture of dope, lyrical, Real Emcees.  If you never  heard of him before you are in for a treat.

Sacramento Knoxx - "Dear Vaughn" - {Audio}

 Sacramento Knoxx hits us with some power lyrics with his classic track "Dear Vaughn" off of his #IdleNoMore Cd.  I really like the message he's delivering on this track it has some strong political views.  That's why I selected this particular artist to be featured because I knew the fans of UnsungHipHop could appreciate it.  Checkout the track below

"The Goal of the movement is education and the revitalization of Indigenous peoples through Awareness and Empowerment. IDLE NO MORE has successfully encouraged knowledge sharing of Indigenous Sovereignty and Environmental Protections."
