The BRIT awards 2013 have put the wheels in motion as this years
nominations were announced last night (Jan 10th) at The Savoy hotel with
some unsurprising names of great talent leading in the polls, showing
what a difference a year makes as singer Emeli Sandé leads with three nominations this year, joining Mumford & Sons and Alt-J.
Last year, Sandé won the Critics choice awards at the BRITs,
something that helped put her on the map as an artist and she has gone
on to much success with her well received debut album Our Version Of Events,
which is up for best British album this year, joining her other two
nominations for best female solo artist and best single for “Next To
Me.”
Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine
after the nomination announcement, the Scottish singer says, “You go
from nobody knowing who you are and then getting to do something like
the Olympics. The success of the album has been incredible.”
With her American tour beginning on January 12th in Atlanta, Sandé’s
feeling excited by the prospect. “It feels quite exciting to start from
that grassroots level again. I hope we can go from state to state and
try and build it. People have heard of my name but that’s about it. You
still have to win everybody over, but that’s the pressure which I work
best under.”
Joining her with three nominations are Mumford & Sons who will be
going head-to-head with her for best album, as well as being nominated
for best group and live act, and Alt-J, who are also up for best album
and group, as well as best breakthrough act.
Other nominees include Rita Ora, Coldplay and Muse, all achieving two nominations each, as well as Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Frank Ocean, The Black Keys, Gotye and Taylor Swift all being nominated in international categories.
This years BRIT awards will take place on February 20th at London’s O2 Arena. Check out the full nominations list below.
