Childish Gambino - "Sober" - {Official Video}

I'll be the first to admit, underestimated Childish Gambino.  I mean his name alone was a turn off, I figured he was another rapper trying to imitate some white gangster.  For years I never really paid attention or featured any of his music.

Don't get me wrong I normally do this to most new artist depending of the content.  I slept on Gambino, this guy is a triple threat he raps, stand-up comedian and he's a great actor. And those are only a few of his hidden talents he writes and directs his show "Atlanta" is the truth.  Be sure to check him out don't be like me...peace.

Wednesday

A-F-R-O Freestyle w/ Statik Selektah On Shade 45 - {Video}

A-F-R-O is one of the dopest freestylin' Emcees of generation Y.  Discovered by R.A. The Rugged Man that alone should tell you this young kid ain't know joke.  R.A. is the most critical Emcee I know of next to Sean Price (R.I.P.).  I never get tired of hearing A-F-R-O freestyle his way through a encyclopedia full of words.  I would even say his freestyle skills are on a same level similar to The God Paposse

Tuesday

Joey Bada$$ - "Land of the Free" - {Official Video}

I've been following Joey Bada$$ career since his first Mixtape 1999 and I must say his style has definitely changed.  Not for the worst I might add but definitely a more worldly appeal.

Nevertheless his rhymes are always message driven so the core of his music has remained the same. After listening to this a few times I've learn to appreciate the beat which seems a bit sluggish for me.  The bars no doubt are the focus on this joint be sure to check it out below.

Monday

Statik Selektah - "21 & Over" (Ft. Sean Price & Mac Miller) - {Video}

On REal music last the test of time, this is one example here.  Statik Selektah always putting out some dope beats, featuring even doper Emcees.  Sean Price (R.I.P.) and Mac Miller blaze their bars all over this one giving underground HipHop another "W".  Check out cameos by Joey Bada$$, Schoolboy Q, Evidence, and The Alchemist. REal HipHop lives underground not on your favorite radio station, remember that!!

Saturday

Ezko - "Rampage" - {Official Video}

 Ezko is a powerful lyricist who intricately laces very philosophical messages in his music while still retaining a level of social appeal. The video for "Rampage" artistically depicts the battle many youth face when being bombarded by pressure from their peers along with the media to succumb to an idolized lifestyle.

It also metaphorically presents this battle as a spiritual one resembling that of a demonic possession that forces it’s host to behave in accordance to the stereotypical rappers mentality. Checkout the video below, now this is what great HipHop is all about.

Friday

Sean Price - "Definition Of God" - {Audio}

One of HipHop's greatest lyricist and Master of Ceremonies Sean Price will always be missed by his core fans, myself included.  His career had it's ups and downs but just when it was rising again, like Michael Jackson & Prince he was gone.  Despite his huge persona Sean lived a private life, most of it was a mystery.  If you asked him he would say, " I love the Rap but I hate the Game...".

Sean only did a handful of interviews or appearances.  After going back and fourth with Duck Down Records he became the CEO, which was a huge win for a brotha from Brownsville, NY.  Checkout the latest release from the Sean Price archives.

Thursday

Skip Marley - "Lions" - {Official Video}

For most of your guys you probably are saying "Who the F#@! is Skip Marley?", well he's the grandson of Bob Marley from his daughter Cedella Marley.  I was a little skeptical at first but the young lion has talent and brings a different twist to the Reggae genre.

Wednesday

Shawn Micskills - "The New America" (Remix) - {Audio}

This is political HipHop track has a classic East Coast/NYC sound that addresses Donald Trump's presidency and the cultural divide in America. The record has been picking up a lot of steam since it dropped in January.

Some peeps has been compared Shawn Micskills to the likes of Brother Ali, Immortal Technique, Kendrick Lamar, Sean Price (RIP), and Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks. Hmm...I would be afraid to be compared to those Lyrical Beast, but I will let you guys be the judge of that.

Tuesday

Issa Rae's Creator of "Awkward Black Girl" & "Insecure" Hilarious Speech At ESSENCE - {Video}

Issa Rae is one of my favorite "Rags to Riches" stories to tell since I've personally watched her go from her mega YouTube hit with "The Misadventures Of Awkward Black Girl" to HBO executive producer and star of her own show "Insecure".  If you don't know her story "Google it", it's fascinating.  But today I just wanted to shine the light on a talented sista who deserved the spotlight and credit for her work, you are appreciated.

Monday

Oddisee - "NNGE" (Ft. Toine) - {Official Video}

Oddisee is one of HipHop's best kept secrets, being a DMV native myself I've been a fan since the beginning.  Back before the Kendrick Lamars and the J. Coles were mainstream Oddisee has been writing lyrical bars and producing dope beats for the REal HipHop heads.  He is what I call and artist's artist, yeah he's that iLL.  He might not drop every 6 months but when he does it's a piece of HipHop perfection.

Sunday

Dr.eamz - "Soul Survival" (Prod by Soleman) - {Audio}

http://str8outdaden.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/dr.eamz-sodd.jpg
 Dr.eamz, calls himself a starving Emcee from New York, it took him 2 years to drop this LP and this is just sample of it below.  "Soul Survival", produced by Soleman, is a very unique piece of work, I love when new artist are not afraid to break the trend.  His flow is unlike any other and the beat is on some other sh@#!!

Saturday

8thW1 - "Happy" (Prod. by PVD) - {Audio}

With so many aspiring artists betraying to be "Trill" willing to jump on any bandwagon in order to get paid. This is a breath of fresh air, a Emcee not afraid of being himself and feeling contempt while still chasing his dream.

Jersey Emcee / AOK Collective member “8thW1” returns to the music scene with the first single off his upcoming album “Lux DeVille” which will be out in May via Elementality Productions.  I know I normally gravitate to the more "Hardcore" HipHop but I really like this mellow joint.  Check it out and tell us what you think.

Friday

Acetik & TRA - "Stand Up" - {Official Video}

Bangerville's Acetik & The SARS Networks TRA are back and the coming with that Boom Bap sound we all love to hear.  In a sea full of "Garbage" Hop, it feels good to hear artist who has love and respect for culture.  Probably one of my favorite underground groups to date.  I look forward to their next project, make sure you go out and support REal HipHop.

Wednesday

Born and raised in Toronto, Fortunato is known for his gritty hard hitting raps and ferocious flow. De La Soul is Not Dead: The Documentary - {Video}

During a time when HipHop was all about bravado, bragging, your tennis, your ride, your ladies and not to mention your Dookie Gold Chain.  Emerging from the depths of Amityville, NY a new genre of HipHip was revolutionize by De La Soul

 I was in love with HipHop before De La hit the scene but when they did it was as if they were speaking for me.  I was a bit of a thug/geek, thug because of my small crimes I use to commit and geek because I got all B's and A's in school (go figure).  This documentary tells the story that led up to their debut album 3 Feet High And Rising, enjoy.

Sunday

Pharoahe Monch - “Haile Selassie Karate" (Ft. Denaun Porter) - {Official Video}

 One of my favorite songs video was shot in Mitchell’s Plain South Africa for none other than Pharoahe Monch's off his‘W.A.R. (We Are Renegades)’.  If  you don't have this LP already you can go cop that right  Here.  Pharoahe is one of the greatest Emcees you've never heard about unless you listen to underground HipHop.

Remember just because you sold a lot of units it doesn't mean you're the best, even Mc Hammer went platinum.  Don't get me wrong he is a very talented entertainer who used HipHop as his platform, but it doesn't make him a lyricist.

Thursday

 Today we present to you Dashius Clay and one of his classic joints "Sleepless". Sunday

BB Thomaz - "Don't Go Missing" (Ft. K2) - {Audio}

I know this site is dedicated to underground HipHop, but every now and we love to feature dope artist no matter the genre.  BB Thomas is that type of artist, I love a good "Rags to Riches" story and hers definitely got my attention.
Growing up in Germany was anything but happy. Being called Nigga by her step fathers, not allowed out of her room, told she couldn’t sing, her life was worthless and she should end it only fueled BB’s determination to leave home at the age of sixteen and make it on her own. This powerhouse is Germany’s recent import to the United States
The “Deutschland” singer, songwriter, producer, is a self taught musician who plays the piano, and guitar with a Masters Degree in Musicology.  BB started her career as a model for brands like Adidas, Reebok, Nike, and Playstation her passion for music is undeniable.

Friday

Mikey Marriott - "Forever After" - {Official Video}

 I was a little skeptical about Mikey Marriott, but once I got a chance to listen to him spit I realize how talented he is.  I must say the younger generation of Emcees are not as bad as I thought, we just need to look a little harder to find Real Emcees and not be fooled by "Pay for Play" radio stations owned by the major corporations.  Let us know what you think about the video below.

Thursday

ASM (A State of Mind) - "Masking" (Ft. MF DOOM as King Dumile) - {Video}

Some may think I'm a little bias when it comes to MF DOOM, well okay I am.  I mean he's one of the greatest Emcees of all time lyrically.  He might not sell like Jay-Z but lyrically he would put Jay in a pine box.  DOOM's bars are just that complex, well planned out and razor sharp.  So yeah he's so dope I pretty much promote all of his projects and features.  Guilty..!!

Wednesday

Tyler, The Creator - "Rusty" (Live) - {Video}

Wow, who would ever imagine that Odd Future's front man Tyler, The Creator would make a appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. Promoting Tyler's third album Wolf, he's joined by Earl Sweatshirt and Domo Genesis to perform “Rusty” for the David Letterman audience.  This is actually funny, Letterman must have been scrubbing out his ear drums, you know damn well he's not a fan of HipHop.  The networks will do anything for ratings.  Not a bad performance I was wondering could they ever do a "Cleanish" performance for TV
