Common Ground - Behind the Scenes - Episode 3

Common Ground is one of the many groups that go unnoticed by the mainstream audience. But if you ever heard any of their music you'll say "WTF", why haven't I heard of these guys before or these guys should be on the radio or TV. People just don't realize a little over 90% of the industry is made up of Underground artist. Most artist that sign with a major label never get released or if they do release a CD the sells are so poor they get dropped. TRUTH...

P. Diddy - CNN Reports - Too Rich For A Scholarship?

Justin Combs worked hard in high school to improve his football game and earn a 3.75 GPA . He recently received a $54,000 merit-based scholarship to UCLA, where he'll play football. In April, Forbes named Justin Combs' dad, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, the wealthiest artist in hip- hop. Some say the family should return Justin's scholarship, arguing that Combs should pay for his son's education and taxpayer money should go to students with greater financial need. Other say Justin Combs earned the scholarship through his grades and athletic ability, and deserves to keep it. I'm on the fence with this one but I do think ultimately Diddy should donate the money to a worthy cause. It's just the right thing to do.

Cortez - ForbezDvd - Interview

Cortez stos by the ForbezDVD Live Show and speaks on various topics. Pretty much everything Cortez is talking about is true, "The Industry" stereotype rappers. After Kanye West released his first CD in the middle of the "Gangsta Rap" era he changed the game. Now "The Industry" is looking for skinny jean, Pee Wee Herman shirt wearing rappers with a Mohawk rappers. Skinny jeans or not, its' all about the skill of an Emcee not the outfit. It's the people who make up these trends "The Machine" is just there to capitalize off of it.

Wednesday

Diggy Simmons - Fuse - Interview

Fresh off his debut studio album "Unexpected Arrival," Diggy Simmons talked to Fuse about establishing himself in hip hop without using his family connections. Much respect from me to him for not claiming the throne before he earned it. But frankly despite his maturity I feel as though he has smart people around him. Marketing experts to be more specific. Anyone in HipHop knows if Diggy would have been appointed or given a major deal with no street cred it wouldn't have sold. So I believe it was a smart decision but not not totally his. Eddie Murphy's brother from the K-1 Posse did that same thing, along with Warren G and a few others.

Pete Rock - Crate Diggers - Interview

This is one of those topics that always starts controversy amongst the HipHop culture and the other genres of music. For one HipHop didn't invent sampling we took it to the next level. I'm quite sure other artist in other genres of music have sampled also. But you see no ones speaks about all the music Elvis just straight stole from black artist. I mean he took the instrumental, the lyrics, and the chorus. I say this if you can't identify were the sample came from let it ride. But in MC Hammer's who took the entire Rick James track and removed the vocals. He needed be sued for that type of robbery. Trust me you will rarely find any original music out there. How do you guys feel about sampling?

Homeboy Sandman - I Do Whatever I Want - Official Video

New release from Homeboy Sandman, who is basically saying "I'm a independent artist and I control my own destiny". I like Sandman he really pushes the envelope on just being yourself. I mean selling 50,000 cd's might not seem like a lot but when you are independent you probably make around 7.00 a cd which is a lot more money than the average American make even with several degrees. And that's not including the money from being on tour. So the lesson here kids is you don't have to sell your soul to the major corporations to be successful. But you must be willing to do the work first before you can reap any benefits of the independent artist lifestyle. You Are Your Brand..!!!

GLC - Cathedral - MixTape

New mix tape release from GLC and collaborations with Blended Babies, check it out, this is one of the cd's I have in rotation now. I'll keep you posted about my thoughts...Enjoy.

Jay-Z & Kanye West - No Church In The World - Official Video

Music video by Jay-Z & Kanye West performing No Church In The Wild feat. Frank Ocean & The-Dream. Now you know we don't feature many mainstream artist or songs. But for those who are familiar with this site know it's always been about the message. This video sends a powerful message so take it and run with it. Hope you enjoy..!!

Saigon - Clears Up Rick Ross Rumors - Blog

Saigon is known for speaking his mind and he does he always gets backlash. I truly respect an Emcee willing to keep it as real as possible. Some say this is a stunt to promote his incoming CD, I say good job. When you are underground independent artis you have to be very creative to move units. Most artist wouldn't take this route they rather sell their souls to the corporations for pennies on the dollar. That fact is he's not lying about the practices of the "Industry" its ALL TRUE. So I applaud him for taking a route less traveled.

CNN: Black In America - Commercialization of HipHop

This is a very interesting topic on how HipHop went Pop because of the Pussification of the art for by Major Coporations. It's like the song says "They Paved Paradise and Put Up a Parking Lot". Just a small glimpse into the corruption of a great thing gone Bullshit.

Pusha T - Exodus 23:1 - Official Video (Lil Wayne Diss)

Just when you think your having a bad day, for someone else its much deeper than that. This song touch on so many nerves its ridiculous, but mental illness is a subject most of us avoid to talk about. This video is a example of when ignorance meets neglect. Big up to Wasted Nation for help keeping Real HipHop relevant.

Nas - Daughters - Official Video

I'm definitely feeling him on this one, I love my daughters to death and I've always been in their lives emotionally and financially. SchoolBoy Q - DJ Drama Shade45 - Interview

The HipHop scene is really coming back with a vengeance since the fall of Death Row Records. This young new "Hippie" HipHop movement is really taking flight and I can honestly say...I love it. It's definitely breaks all the stereotypes of West Coast Rappers. This whole movement is coming with its sound which will surely leave a mark in HipHop history.

Meek Mill, Wale, French Montana - Freestyle

You know every time we feature artist or are not considered to be "Underground" there must be a reason, well here it is. We love dope freestyle and we show respect to any artist that have skills. I remember Wale when he is in D.C. being originally Baltimore myself I remember his more "Hardcore" stuff.

Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt - Documentary Part 1

Brooklyn-born Jay-Z is one of the most successful and creative hip-hop artists of all time. His remarkable rise to fame was heralded by his first album Reasonable Doubt, released in 1996, which broke new ground for rap, telling the bittersweet story of a street hustler from Brooklyn with striking, coded lyrics supported by rich soul samples. The programme uncovers the unusual story of how and why Reasonable Doubt was made, and the moral maze its story presents. Jay-Z collaborated with many major producers, like DJ Premier, Irv Gotti, Clark Kent, Knobody, Sean Cane and Ski who show how they created their soulful samples. Other contributors include Mary J Blige, Foxy Brown, Sauce Money and Memphis Bleek, Kanye West and Barry Michael Cooper, who analyse the inner core of the album - the voices, rhythms, lyrics and conflicting emotions that make this album a classic. The programme uses new interviews, rare performance footage and home movies and featured songs include Can't Knock the Hustle, 'Ain't No Nigga, Brooklyn's Finest, Dead Presidents II, D'Evils, Can I Live, Regrets and others. Reasonable Doubt is the one Jay-Z chose to be his Classic Album because of the power of its music and poetry and because of the disturbing and precautionary story it tells.

Slaughterhouse - TimWestwoodTv - Interview

Slaughterhouse in the building! Joe Budden, Crooked I, Royce da 5'9" & Joell Ortiz on the Westwood 1Xtra show! NOT TO BE MISSED! Probably the best underground powerhouse since the rise of the WuTang Clan. These is band of brothers are ripping the stages up across the globe. I'm not going to lie I wasn't sure about skills of Joe Budden but he has definitely proven me wrong. Their concert is a must see lots of energy and stage presence. Basically this group is form of dope Emcees who were never really had great promotion by "The Machine". But true talent last the test of time.

Tech N9ne - The Noose (feat.Mayday) - Official Video

Check out Tech N9ne and Mayday as they honor our troops this Memorial Day with the video to "The Noose", from the album Tech N9ne Collabos -- Welcome To Strangeland. Tech has come a long way being one of few rappers that start and remain independent by choice. Artist like him see the big picture knowing that little money given to artist or should I say fronted to artist. Because you end up having to pay that money back out of your royalty check with interest. This is the reason we need to support underground independent artist because in order for them to stay creative and not be sucked in by "The Machine". But since being original doesn't pay as much more and more rappers sign their souls away for pennies on a dollar.

If only he can put his ego to the side and attend practice like every last one of the greats before and after to him. Suit up and get back to work...!!! But I'm not sure if the League is going to allow him back I believe they used him as a example. I know he's not making as nearly as much money playing overseas.

Complex catches up with Large Professor, the innovative and intelligent Flushing, Queens–bred producer/MC, who started his career as Main Source’s front man and a ghost producer for Eric B. & Rakim, has amassed a catalog of timeless, sample-based classics, collaborating with a lengthy list of legendary artists from his borough and beyond. As we celebrate Nas week, it seemed only right to get with Large Pro, the producer who introduced Nasty Nas to the game. Let’s take a sec to think back. There are his Main Source hits (“Looking at the Front Door,” “Fakin’ The Funk,”), his work with Nas on Illmatic (“Halftime,” “One Time 4 Your Mind,” “It Ain’t Hard To Tell,”) and Stillmatic (“You Da Man,” “Rewind”), not to mention his unforgettable appearance with A Tribe Called Quest on Midnight Marauders’ “Keep It Rollin’.” Add on solo joints like “The Mad Scientist,” poisonous production for Kool G Rap and Big L, and hard-hitting remixes for Beastie Boys, Common, Mobb Deep, and Gang Starr, plus guest spots with Lord Finesse and The Beatnuts, and you’ve got a hip-hop resume jam-packed with rawness. With his fourth solo album, Professor @ Large, dropping June 26th, we met up with Large Pro at Fat Beats Headquarters in Brooklyn to break down the stories behind his classic records. In Part One, Extra P gives us the extra details about Big Daddy Kane’s deadpan reaction to him showing up late for a session, hanging out with Q-Tip during the making of The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders (he also shares which of the two albums is his favorite), and creating “Live at the Barbeque,” tracks for Illmatic, and the unreleased gem “Understanding” Nas. In Men In Black™ 3, Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) are back... in time. J has seen some inexplicable things in his 15 years with the Men in Black, but nothing, not even aliens, perplexes him as much as his wry, reticent partner. But when K's life and the fate of the planet are put at stake, Agent J will have to travel back in time to put things right. J discovers that there are secrets to the universe that K never told him -- secrets that will reveal themselves as he teams up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save his partner, the agency, and the future of humankind. Two-time Academy Award® nominee WILL SMITH (Agent J) has enjoyed unprecedented success in a career encompassing films, television, and multi-platinum records. Smith has made it a mission to help others through his humanitarian efforts. Among the issues most important to Smith are children's education and outreach; in many and varied ways, Smith has long supported schools across the country. Smith has focused his efforts to make a difference through the Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation, which Smith and his wife founded in 1997. Also through the Family Foundation, Smith is part of the Kanimambo Foundation, a non-profit organization that implements innovative programs in Mozambique to improve the state of education, orphan care, and HIV/AIDS education and medical assistance. Among his many accomplishments, Smith was honored by the Museum of the Moving Image in 2006 and received the Simon Wiesenthal Humanitarian Award in 2009. He was given the prestigious Simon Wiesenthal award based on his "commitment to education, cultural diversity, and social responsibility." Smith serves as an ambassador for Nelson Mandela's 46664 Foundation, the African response to the global HIV/AIDS epidemic. In 2008, Smith became a National Board Member for Malaria No More, a foundation with a simple goal: to end malaria deaths everywhere. Its obvious B.I.G. was going to back his new girl back in the day before he passed and help promote her. Still some people feel like that was the only reason she was with him. I will be checking out her new stuff I will keep you posted.

Jay-Z - Sits Down With Warren Buffet - Interview

The first Forbes 400 Summit was surreal, amazing and, in the end, moving. We gassed up a Gulfstream 450 one warm September morning and flew one of the most successful recording artists of all time, Jay-Z, to meet the most successful investor of all time, Warren Buffett, on the latter's home turf of Omaha, Neb. The intent was to capture their very different perspectives on success and wealth and to talk about the social obligations that come with each. They ended up finding out they had more in common than anyone would have expected between a 40-year-old rapper from the Brooklyn projects and the 80-year-old sage of compounded returns.

SOPA - Congress Trying to Censor Everything On The Internet!!

SOPA is powered by the capital of 'old media'. These are folk who want to maintain an old, outmoded and redundant status quo to the detriment of all of us. Napoleonic justice (guilty till proven innocent) was flawed in its day, and there can be no reason to bring it back today for the pipedream of the 'old media' tycoons that the genie can be put back in the bottle. This TED talk about SOPA is creative commons, unaltered non-profit media. You are free to copy and mirror it as much as you want, as long as its non profit and unaltered. They want to stop the sharing of information and censor everything we do. Wow....are we becoming the next China? Time Warner is one of the major sponsors of this Bill pouring millions of dollars into lobbyist pockets. Big business already owns Wall Street now they are trying to own the way most of us communicate.

Jadakiss - Sway In The Morning - Interview

The art of battling is based on charisma, heart, knowledge, and lyrical content. And just off of that statement most of your favorite rappers don't even come close to this. It takes a special Emcee to be able to make songs and battle, considering most battle rappers are not capable of making good rap albums. So you have to show your respect for Emcees like Jadakiss, Rakim, KRS-ONE, Mos Def, Immortal Technique, etc... for the skill they bring to the mic.

Trayvon Martin Tribute - Behind the Scenes

What does it matter that he was black? Because if he were white he'd still be alive. I never understood why people act like racism dosen't exist. The only people who say that are racist. Remember slot of people in the US will not speak out agaist racism because their friends and family are racist. This problem will never end until we truly break the cycle and seriously I don't think the human race is intelligent enough to do that. Because we are the "King" of the jungle with no natural enemies above us except for ourselves. Maybe its natural for us to kill one another to help keep the population down. Things that make you go..Hmmm?
